I started training at Langille's Tae Kwon Do in 2014 when I was 5 years old. I started in the Little Dragons class and I was one of the first ever Little Dragons. While I was in the Little Dragons class I went through 6 different belt tests, making it all the way up to brown striped belt. When I was 8 I moved up to the Warriors class and shortly after I started volunteering in the Little Dragons class. The more I learned about martial arts, the more I wanted to share what I learned with others.
I was still young when I first started helping out with the Little Dragons so I was mostly there to help hold pads but I still enjoyed being there watching all of the students grow and improve their skills. I moved up to the adult class in 2022 as a purple belt. I then started going to more of the other kids' classes before my classes. I was helping with both the Monday and Wednesday Little Dragons and Warriors classes. At this time I was beginning to teach more, slowly gaining more responsibilities within the class.
In September of 2024 I was offered the opportunity to go through the assistant instructor course. On December 3rd 2024 I completed the course coming out with the title of Boo Kyo Sa, meaning assistant Instructor. This was an amazing experience and I'm so glad that I am now able to teach and pass my knowledge of the martial art to the younger students as I aim to be a role model for them.
I started at Langille’s Tae Kwon Do when I was 5 under my parents’ instruction. The first class I went in was the Littles Dragons’ class and then worked my way up to the Warrior’s class and then when I was 11, I moved to the adult’s class.
The first class I went to I was nervous. I was nervous that I was not going to understand what was being asked and I was nervous that I was not going to know anyone but that was not the case at all. Everyone was so welcoming and helped me when I didn’t understand. I made new friends that I can grow and learn with. There are people now that were in the Dragon’s class with me that I still train with today.
In December of 2024 I was promoted to Boo Kyo Sa (assistant instructor) and before that I was volunteering in the kids classes. I got to help out all of the instructors with teaching the kids. I go every Monday and Wednesday to help before my class which is after the dragons and warriors.
Tae Kwon Do is not just about punching and kicking, there are so many life lessons to learn. Tae Kwon Do will teach you discipline, how to work with others and it will keep you active. Although you do learn to punch and kick it is also about the other things you pick up on the way.
In March I got promoted to red belt and my goal is to get my black belt before I graduate from high school.
I first started with Langille's Tae Kwon Do when I was 8 years old. I started in the Warriors class because my best friend encouraged me to join. I didn’t really have a lot of friends as I had just moved to Nova Scotia so I was a little scared and wasn’t really sure how it would go, but it was so amazing how encouraging and supportive the other kids and instructors were.
When I was 13 I moved up to the adult class where I really started to take my training seriously. It was a big step as I was moving up without my best friend, but again, everyone was really encouraging and it was really great to see my own progress improve. I participated in tournaments, camps and underwent numerous belt tests which have all shaped me into the martial artist I am today.
I started volunteering for the Little Dragons and Warriors class in September 2024 and finished my assistant instructor course that December. It is an amazing experience to be able to help the kids improve their skills and techniques. It’s also grown my confidence in so many ways, not only through my own techniques, but through announcing myself and being confident in how we work with others and ourselves.
I’m now 18 and can’t imagine what my life would be like without Tae Kwon Do. It helped develop my determination, confidence, respect and so many other aspects of myself that I apply to my daily life. I’ve made lifelong friends who have been my biggest supporters and who share the same passions and goals as I do through Tae Kwon Do.
Tae Kwon Do is very rewarding as you put your mind and body through so much. I plan to continue my training for my black belt as that has been one of my biggest goals forever. I also plan to continue in the Little Dragons and Warriors classes because I love working with the kids and see my own progress and confidence grow.
My name is Samantha Stronge and I’m a grade 12 student at Cobequid Educational Centre. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, surfing, art, and of course, Tae Kwon Do. My first exposure to Tae Kwon Do was watching during a demonstration at the Hubtown Youth Fun Run many years ago. Langilles Tae Kwon Do had instructors and students demonstrating techniques and giving us kids a chance to try some kicks. I remember watching Miss Berry, impressed with her skill and her confidence - it was great to see a girl with such skill. She inspired my parents to look into classes for me. I started my Tae Kwon Do journey in 2013 when my parents registered me in an anti-bullying course offered by Langille’s Tae Kwon Do. I was dealing with several bullies at school and my parents thought I would benefit from this class - learning how to deal with bullies in a non-violent way, while improving my confidence and learning some self defence techniques. This session really helped and I was anxious to continue my Tae Kwon Do journey after its completion. In January of 2014, I joined Langille’s Tae Kwon Do’s first Little Dragons class. From there I moved through the Warriors class and finally, at age 13, moved to the adult class. Not only has Tae Kwon Do taught me hand techniques, kicks, self defence, and forms, I have gained confidence, learned respect and perseverance, and have made many friends…my instructors and classmates are like family. In the Fall of 2024, I began volunteering with the kids and youth classes, and was lucky enough to participate in the Assistant Instructor course. I am now a certified Assistant Instructor with Langille’s Tae Kwon Do, and I look forward to continuing to work with the kids and youth classes, hoping to inspire them on their own Tae Kwon Do journey.
I first started at Langilles Tae Kwon Do in 2016 at the age of 9 with my sister. I wasn’t even sure what Tae Kwon Do was when I first joined, as it was my dad that wanted my sister and I to join. He wanted us to be in Martial Arts so that we could learn how to protect ourselves from anything that could happen in the future. I attended my first tournament when I was a yellow belt. It was very nerve wracking but it was a great experience. It allowed me to come out of my shell and show the judges my skills. The experience of this tournament was more important to me than the medals that I received. In December 2024, I completed the Assistant Instructor course and received the title of Boo Kyo Sa. Being able to have the opportunity to take this course is very important to me, as I love spending time with the children and helping them along their own Tae Kwon Do journey. Currently, I am a red belt in Tae Kwon Do. It’s so hard to believe that I’ve been training with Langilles Tae Kwon do for almost 10 years! I’ve learnt so much throughout my time in Tae Kwon Do, and it’s allowed me to grow as a person. I used to be a shy, 9 year old girl, and now I’m 18 and experienced so much throughout those 9 years. Two of my closest friends also do Tae Kwon Do with my sister and I. We have the privilege to train together since we are all in similar ranks. I am so grateful that I’m able to be involved in such a great community of people!
I started Tae Kwon Do in 2016 in the warriors class when I was 7. I started it with my older sister who would have been 9 at the time. I did Tae Kwon Do at first because my parents wanted me to join it so I would know how to defend myself. I didn't enjoy it at first as I was a really shy, quiet kid. I only liked it because my sister was in it with me. When I got a bit older some of my sister's friends were in Tae Kwon Do as well, and now they are some of my closest friends. I really enjoy training together with them as we are the same or really close in rank. When I moved up to the adult class, I was still really shy. When I started to get into the more advanced ranks, like purple and blue, I found myself really starting to like Tae Kwon Do a lot more and became less shy. The environment is really friendly and everyone is super encouraging. In December 2024, I got my assistant instructor certificate. I now help out with the warriors class on both nights. Teaching the little kids is really enjoyable and it's so rewarding after you teach them something and you can tell they are happy with themselves. I just got promoted to my red belt on April 2, 2025. I have made many good relationships with others in the class. The instructors are so nice and so are the other students. I am now much more confident and a lot less shy in and outside of Tae Kwon Do. I really enjoy coming to the kids class and the adult class every chance I get. I am now training for my red belt with the stripe.
My name is Shayne Bowser (Just like Mario and Bowser) and I grew up in Truro all of my life. I started my Tae Kwon Do experience under the Master Langilles at the Douglas Street Recreational Center, in the new year of 2018 when I was in grade 5. It’s been an amazing experience, even if a year was lost due to COVID-19. I remember one day in the car, my mother asked me if I wanted to join. I was like “yeah sure” because I wanted to try out something new. At that time, I didn’t have many friends at school. Maybe this was my chance to make some friends, and it was. I vividly remember the names and faces of those who taught me when I was little, even those who don’t go there anymore. Tae Kwon Do has definitely changed me for the better! Back in the day, I was a quiet kid that kept to himself. Tae Kwon Do taught me much more than forms or hand techniques. I learned how to talk and cooperate with people, to have patience, to be confident and keep going when it gets tough! It gave me a small community where there were people who enjoyed the same things I did! Skipping ahead to December of 2024, I obtained my Blue Pants and the title of Boo Kyo Sa (Assistant Instructor). I enjoy helping the organization that raised me to who I am today, even if I’m still a fairly timid and introverted person. A good martial artist needs to have a great mindset! That means: greeting people with a smile, respecting others, being calm & collected and to persevere when tasked with something difficult. Exercise and Physical Ability also play a large role. You never know how many push-ups you can do between sips of tea until you try!
I was first introduced to Tae Kwon Do in 2017 when my daughter Emma joined the Warriors class. At first it was a fun activity to do with her friends, but as time went on we realized this school has so much more to offer. The motivating environment and family atmosphere made me realize this is something I would like to try.
I finally got a chance to join the adult class in January of 2020 and soon realized that my ambitions far exceeded my abilities, but with the excellent guidance of Master Langille and the other instructors, I learned that with hard work and determination I could overcome any obstacle. In time, I realized that Tae Kwon Do teaches a lot more than just a martial art. It is a life style of always working to become a better person physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I have since been promoted through the ranks to purple belt and was awarded the title of Boo Kyo Sa in December of 2024. I now volunteer in the Warriors classes as an assistant instructor and continue training towards my next belt.
My name is Maxine Jordan, I work as Educational assistant at an Elementary school. I love working with kids and watching them learn and grow! I first joined Langilles Tae Kwon Do in January of 2020. Shortly after my boys joined. Taking them to class and watching them learn, I couldn’t help but want to do this sport myself. I didn’t have any real goals in mind at the time but I wanted to be physically active. As I progressed, I wanted to help out with the younger students in their classes so I started to volunteer. I was then given the opportunity to complete the assistant instructor course and jumped to the opportunity. I thoroughly enjoy coming in every week working with everyone to help the younger students grow in their learning of Tae Kwon Do!
I started my Tae Kwon Do journey in September 2022 under Master Wayne Langille. I had spent a few years watching my daughter in the Warriors class and later the Adult class and than was able to watch my husband join the adult class, so I had a chance to get to know the amazing instructors and students through them.
I never started Tae Kwon Do to learn self defense or to earn a belt. I started because I saw how much my daughter and husband loved it and seeing how much happiness and fulfillment they got from the time and dedication that went into each class, each accomplished personal goal and each belt test was my motivation to finally try something completely new to me. The pride I have in my accomplishments in class have created a self confidence that has carried over into all parts of my life.
I was invited to participate in the assistant instructor program which I successfully completed in December 2024, earning the rank of Boo Kyo Sa (assistant instructor). Outside of Tae Kwon Do, I enjoy working in a teaching capacity as a mentor to other CCAs providing home support and the confidence I’m continuing to develop as an assistant instructor has made me so much more confident when I am mentoring outside of class. In February 2025, I earned my green belt and the support and love from other students and instructors to get through such a difficult test has inspired me to continue to improve on my teaching abilities so I can provide the same love and support to others.
Tae Kwon Do is a lifelong journey and I am incredibly lucky to train with the best instructors who have helped me develop my strengths as a student as well as an assistant instructor as I continue to work towards being the martial artist that I know I am capable of being.
